Give a damn! A Handbook of Manifestos

In my penultimate semester at design school, we had a 10 week long classroom project on Strategies for Visual Communication Systems. Observing the growing apathy amongst my peers and friends, I decided to work on fostering proactive participation among the youth.

To create student engagement integrated with design education, while nurturing the community’s sense of belonging.

How might the processes and artefacts of design assist in making value systems tangible and negotiable among community members and stakeholders?

Envisioning a system
A publication handed out to the students during Design Thinking courses
+ Crowdsourced posters that are made as class assignment
+ Supplemented with flash cards for an interactive activity

Mirror image of text that reads: Readers are encouraged to consider how they position themselves inside of design, and then try to define their own beliefs with a group of statements, phrases, or words.

The last chapter is the Personal Manifesto Project where the reader can fill up the blank folios with their reflections. If the collection of twelve manifestos has inspired them, helped them shape up their personal priorities, they get to pen those thoughts and take true ownership of this handbook.
