Yay or Nay Week 2

This season, on Monday’s I will be admitting where I was right and where I was wrong in my predictions from the previous week. This week I broke down the GAC Game of the Week,  Southern Arkansas at Harding so lets jump right to it.

Where I was wrong: Lets start with the obvious. I personally attacked the Muleriders head coach Bill Keopple and underestimated his ability to take a good team and win on the road. He proved me wrong. Southern Arkansas went into Searcy and obliviated the Bison offensive line in the second half and it led to a win. Harding only scored 6 points in the second half.

Where I was right: Last week I stated that Barrett Renner was the best quarterback in the GAC and that he would at least get 30 attempts at Harding’s defense. He took advantage as he passed for 233 yards and two touchdowns. Those two touchdowns came in the second half when they mattered most.

Where I was wrong: I thought Harding’s defense would disrupt Barret Renner more than they did. The Bison only totaled one sack all game. That’s with an All-American linebacker and one of the best defensive lines in the conference. Its clear Southern Arkansas’ offensive line is one of the best in the conference and will continue to get better throughout the season.

Where I was right: Speaking of defensive linemen. I specifically stated that Southern Arkansas had the advantage when it came to the defensive line. The Muleriders collected 13 tackles for loss, 7.5 of them were from their defensive line. Southern Arkansas’ DaVondrick Lison returned a fumble 57 yards to seal the game.

Where I was wrong: In last year’s contest the Muleriders lost the time of possession 31:36 to 28:24 and I thought that they would need that same formula to have success this year. I was wrong. This year the Bison won the time of possession battle 35:37 to 24:23 but Renner was efficient, only missing 10 passes and averaging 11 yards per completion.

Where I was right: Last week I said that the “magic number” for SAU would be 300. If they could hold Harding under 300 yards rushing, they had a shot to win the game. The Muleriders only allowed 283 total yards and forced 3 turnovers against the Bison offense.

Harding’s next opponent: @ Southern Nazarene
Southern Arkansas’ next opponent: @ Southwestern Oklahoma
