Chal Rang De movement started by an NGO aims to transform the slums of Mumbai into a colourful amalgamation of local stories and spirit. Neighbourhoods making themselves over with colour, murals and graffiti are becoming a symbol of positive urbanism today. It is seen to be most impactful in slums in terms of gifting happiness and confidence
to the people living there.
I got to be a part of the initiative in Asalpha slums in Mumbai and it was an absolute delight to work on a wall in the locality. The inspiration for the concept of the wall art came through my experience of walking through all the houses and tiny lanes. There were playful cats in almost every corner and little children playing about outside their houses. The wall art aims to capture the soul of the cheerful children who reside in the locality and the spirit of that place and its people.
