There are some ways you can help you kids getting rid of this habit. This is what this article is all about.
Some reasons for teeth grinding in children
People, children and adults, usually grind their teeth at night. In case of children, the reasons may be quite different in every case. Typically, teething in infants can result in bruxism. And in many cases, children who get permanent teeth also face the problem of teeth grinding. The main reasons for teeth grinding may include stress, frustration, and response to pain. Improper alignment of teeth can also be the reason for teeth grinding. Medical conditions and genetics also play major role in the development of this problem.
Is it something to worry about?
Bruxism is pretty much common among children. The matter of fact is that about 20 to 30 percent of children grind their teeth at a particular phase of childhood. However, the good news is that most of the children get out of this phase without having much of the damage.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean that you should not care about children’s habit of grinding their teeth. There are symptoms that you need to watch out for. Those symptoms may include:

- The noise of grinding while your child sleeps
- Discomfort or pain while chewing
- Sensitivity to hot and cold foods and beverages
- Soreness in the jaw or face

After noticing any one of above mentioned symptoms in your kid, you need to take him/her to the dental visit. Good news is that most cases of bruxism in children do not require any treatment as the problem goes away eventually. However, there is a chance for the habit of grinding teeth to stay there. During dental visit, the dentist will be able to suggest the treatment plan. Having that said, you need to keep it in mind that while the bruxism may not be the bigger issue, the root cause behind this problem is surely something you have to focus. For instance, if your kid has this habit of teeth grinding due to stress, the dentist may be able to suggest a calming treatment.

Let’s not deviate from the purpose of dental visit in this regard. The dentist will thoroughly examine the oral cavity of your kid. The level of enamel wear and the risk of infection will also be evaluated. In many cases, the dentists suggest use of night guard in order to prevent teeth from receiving any kind of damage.
