Middlesbrough Football Club is a professional association football club based in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. They are currently competing in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football. Formed in 1876, they were one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992. The club came close to folding in 1986 after experiencing severe financial difficulties before it was saved by a consortium led by then board member and later chairman Steve Gibson.
A self-initiated and unofficial rebrand of the Middlesbrough FC club crest. The rebrand was centered on creating a crest that not only represented the club but also the rich heritage and history of Middlesbrough as a town.
The crest is retro-inspired and draws elements from the town's heritage as well as past eras of the club through its colour scheme and shape, whilst also displaying the club's history both pre and post 1986 (when the club nearly folded). The concept would be used on everything from kit to marketing.
