Homemade Treats

Homemade Treats

This project was designed in response to a university project brief. The task was to explore how familiar forms and materials can be altered to create new visual associations, subsequently producing a book of 36 images that share a conceptual and/or visual constraint.

The concept I explored was food that wasn't food; using household objects to create artefacts that looked like or alluded to sweet food items. To create a consistent series, I photographed the "homemade treats" against a set of brightly coloured backgrounds which complemented the dessert theme and playful tone of the project.

"Fairy bread" made from sponge and berry pins
From top to bottom, left to right: "fairy floss" made from pink thread, "vanilla soft serve" made from tissue paper in a plastic cup, "sponge cake" made from sponge and cotton balls, and "candy cane" made from a paper straw
"Croissant" made from a sock
