It is estimated that more than 1 in 17 people in the UK have diabetes. A large proportion of these people self inject insulin using an injection pen. Talking to diabetics first hand highlighted that easy needle tip disposal whilst on the move is an important yet unmet need.
Diabetics inject around 6 times a day. A new needle is used each time and needs to be disposed of. Current sharps containers are too big, even the smallest aren’t designed with transportation or pocket-ability in mind. This is an issue whenever the user doesn’t want to carry a bag. Often diabetics are left to dangerously transport needles back home where the sharps container is situated.
A better solution would be a sharps container that is small, discrete and pocket friendly.
