Yellowstone National Park is a wilderness plateau atop a volcanic hot spot. Directly to the south is Grand Teton National Park, with jagged peaks rising from behind Jackson Lake. Intense canyons, alpine rivers, evergreen forests, and thermal geyser basins dot the landscape. Mainly in Wyoming, this erratic territory stretches to parts of Montana and Idaho.
