Surrealism: Could this be a dream

A movement that grew out of the earlier Dada movement, the visual effects of surrealism was not on negation but on positive expression. All sorts of techniques and phenomena were used to achieve a subconscious creativity, including dreams, hallucinations all of this comes together to create the thought processes involved in creating works of art (Arthistoryarchive.com, 2018).
The Son of Man, 1964 by Rene Magritte
This is the most recognizable art work and is better known as the melting clocks, which became the most iconic representation of the surrealism movement. There is no real idea what the painting mean, but as Salvador Dali stated as he “had painted dream photographs”.

The painting is indicated as a self-portrait, and is painting a man in a coat with his face partially covered by an apple. Rene Magritte states that is painting represent that “Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see. There is an interest in which the visible does not show us.
