The Skinny:
ID Hero® is one of the newest product lines by ID® Lubricants. The goal behind the ID Hero® line was to design a product for a young hip user base. Originally in development the line was focused at young men who were looking for a lubricant for sensitive skin that was also glycerin and paraben free. The design and product was quickly well received in early testing by all genders and sexual orientation and allowed me to focus on building a design for a wider youthful consumer base.
The idea behind Hero was to develop a fun lubricant line that can be playful, strong and defining. With my history and background being apart of the "Nerd" community I had a unique opportunity to design a product that would be "Geek Chic" but not exploitive, a joke or a fading grasp at the current superhero fad.
The comic style quickly sprung from the name Hero. The overall aesthetics along of the other components fell into place. When I developed the colors I went for bold vibrant colors that blended with the "flavor" names. The names also had to be bold and not standard, H2O ( a water based lubricant ) was the simplest, it had to be clear and direct to set the pace. The other "flavor" names fell in behind and allowed for a bit of fun. Super Slick a silicone lubricant, Heat Ray a warming lubricant and Cool Blast a cooling lubricant.
As the Hero line moved forward we started to build up its brand with marketing material and a product display. This all followed the design and concept set forth with ID Hero® – Keep it bold, colorful and true to the comic style of the bottles. This was translated successfully in the form of a bold tabletop/slat wall display, posters, and distributor/consumer "comic book" catalogs.
Closeing thoughts
ID Hero® was honestly the easiest and more intuitive design i'v had the honor to design and develop. This is only reinforced more so with the ongoing and quick success ID Hero® has enjoyed thus far.
