Simplify The Process

As photographers we can sometimes become obsessive with lighting arrangements and equipment, and whilst painting with light is what we do, there are occasions when simply documenting a specific moment in time holds so much more meaning.

The following photo's captures a candid moment in time of my daughter during a gathering for her first birthday. Had I obsessed over bouncing light I would have certainly missed these moments.

I had decided from the outset to use the available light. I also didn’t want to have to concern myself with the camera settings, I just wanted to document. In order for me to achieve this my camera was set to shutter priority, eliminating the need for me to think about the aperture or ISO, I had to place my faith in the Lumix G80 to do the hard work for me.

Take a step back. It is easy to find yourself immersed in the moment, but it’s important to remember that we are creatives. Look around you. What can you find to frame your photo. It is this thought process that makes your shot a photograph, not a snapshot.

Without Photography, There Is No History.
