Digging in the Stars (Graphic Novel Concept)

Archaeology of Outer Space student Carter’s search for a lost friend leads to the greatest archaeological discovery since Tutankhamun--in space.
Carter dreams of living up to her famous namesake and unmasking the lost golden mummy of King Loreval of planet Thror, the alien Tutankhamun. Unfortunately, a cataclysmic volcanic eruption has left little of Thror’s legendary Golden Age beyond the records of an early 20th century space adventurer. When her ill best friend Conrad is abducted on a mysterious trip to Thror, Carter embarks on a double quest – pursuing Conrad’s trail while unraveling his perplexing connection with the secrets of ancient Thror. Aided by 300-year-old notes and photographs, clues seemingly left behind by Conrad, and a band of misfit classmates, Carter launches an illicit dig in Thror’s forbidden Black Zone. She soon realizes Thror’s ancient past is more alive than it seems, and the masked shadows lurking among the volcanic mountain ranges prefer it buried.

After descending into a pitch-black shaft via fraying rope, Carter is rewarded by discovering a wall of ancient Throrian relief carving, depicting King Loreval and a procession of scent bearers.
