Orbitra is an office chair which has been designed to constantly support every seating posture that a user adopts while performing office oriented tasks, seated. It encourages the user to regularly change his/her seating posture in addition to taking often breaks by minimizing the musculoskeletal effort needed from the user to perform so. TU Delft and Nextidevolution, which was addressed by Okamura, an office furniture construction company, commissioned the design of a new stylish office chair for the handicapped. The fundamental driving factor of this project was the “people’s design” philosophy of Nextidevolution which exhorts the correlation of the on-stage with the off-stage world and finally provides a product that will assist and also benefit both handicapped and non-handicapped without stigmatizing them. The context of this project was attached to the future business models which the most dominat tends to be the flex-office environment.
