Cárcere: a book on OCD

Cárcere
A book on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

(free translation from Brazilian Portuguese "Cárcere") Imprisonment: noun
1. DUNGEON; 2. House of detention; chain, prison; 3. The cell in which the prisoner is taken; 4. Anything that causes trouble; obstacle, difficulty.

"Cárcere" is a book on OCD, a psychological disease characterized by disturbing thoughts relieved through repetitive behaviors. These behaviors make it difficult or even impossible to fulfill daily tasks and affect emotional health.

This is a design experimental project and relies on the cycle of phases that make up the emotional and behavioral pattern of the disease. The phases explained, analyzed and illustrated throughout the book are: trigger, intrusive thinking, obsessive thinking, compulsion, relief, collapse, consciousness, and resistance.

The design choices for the project refer to the obsessions and compulsions related to obsessive-compulsive spectrum issues, such as, among others, white related to cleanliness, page size in golden proportion referring to obsession with numbers and proportions, and the diversity of colors and materials is related to the different stimuli and emocional phases that the individual with the disease suffers.

Other resources used in the project in the name of the editorial study and the graphic representation of a complex psychological disorder are: a variety of ten papers with different weights, textures and visual impacts; low relief; located varnish; holographic lamination; and French fold.

[In the next image] "OCD is like having two brains -
one rational and one irrational, and they are always fighting."
