Cúige

This is a game based on rules that are over four centuries old. I decided to use the name Cúige (the Gaeilge word for provence or a fifth) as the theme of the game revolves around the medieval kingdoms of Ireland with its customs, society and morality.
The game uses a traditional playing card format with four suits and thirteen cards to a suit. The four suites represent the four main powers of the island namely Chonnacht, Laighean, Mumhan, and Uladh (Connacht, Leinster, Munster, and Ulster.). The fifth power is Mhí which has been relegated to the thirteenth card in all suites to convey its strength in providing legitimacy for the High Kingship of Ireland but also its weakness as a pawn in the geopolitical machinations of its neighbours.
Below are a few examples of how the visuals are shaping up. Please feel free to leave feedback.
