The piece represents the moment of the Annunciation, when the Archangel Gabriel appears to the young Mary and delivers the Word, according to which the Virgin is carrying the child of God in her womb. But then a vision appears to Mary of the painful future in which she sees her son’s suffering, humiliation and crucifixion. She can feel her maternal pain as well, as she is standing by the cross mourning the death of her son. But more strongly than anything else she feels the holy cause, the noble task, that Jesus will perform, in which she will have to play a part as his mother. Elevated by the knowledge that even in her painful fate she will serve God’s will, for the good and salvation of humanity. She consciously and willingly undertakes this blessed state and all the joy and sorrow attendant upon it.

This piece is dedicated to the pain of the eternal Mother on losing her child. It is about the most horrible feeling following the experience of the greatest joy. It is about the direct pain felt on the loss of a child and also about the loss of immortality, the discontinuity of heredity, breaking the connection with the endless chain of the universe, thus about the meaninglessness of existence. But at the same time it is also about faith, that nothing is in vain and that after the pain and suffering there is hope for reunion. A great number of mothers have been forced to experience the loss of their child owing to wars, illnesses, oppression and other horrors. This piece commemorates them evoking the Virgin Mary standing in front of the cross. We remember a mother who carried God’s child under her heart, and all mothers who believe they have found God’s face in the smile of their child.

A darab az angyali üdvözlet pillanatát ábrázolja, amint Gábriel arkangyal megjelenik  az ifjú Máriának és elmondja az Igét, mely szerint a szűz méhében az Isten gyermekét hordja. Ám ekkor vízióként megjelenik Máriának a fájdalmas jövő, melyben fia szenvedését, megaláztatását és kereszthalálát látja. Érzi saját anyai fájdalmát is, miként a keresztnél állva fia halálát siratja. De mindennél erősebben érzi a szent ügyet, a nemes feladatot, melyet Jézus teljesít be, melyben részt kell vállalnia anyjaként. Megnemesülve a tudattól, hogy fájdalmas sorsában is Isten útját, az emberiség javát, üdvét szolgálja, tudatosan, önmaga vállalja a gyermekáldást és a velejáró minden örömöt és bánatot.

A gyermekét elvesztő mindenkori Anya fájdalmának szól e mű. A legnagyobb öröm megélése után bekövetkezhető legszörnyűbb érzésről. Mely a gyermek elvesztésén érzett közvetlen fájdalmon túl, a halhatatlanság elvesztéséről, a továbbörökítés megszűnéséről, az univerzum végtelen láncolatával való kapcsolat megszakadásáról, ily módon tulajdonképpen a lét értelmetlenségéről is szól. De ugyanakkor a hitről is, hogy semmi nincs hiába, és a fájdalom, szenvedés után van remény az újratalálkozásra.

Háborúk, betegségek, elnyomás és egyéb szörnyűségek miatt sok-sok anya volt kénytelen átélni gyermeke elvesztését a történelemben. Nekik állít emléket a darab, megidézve a kereszt előtt álló Szűz Máriát. Egy anyára emlékezünk, aki az Isten gyermekét hordta szíve alatt, és minden anyára, aki gyermeke mosolyában az Isten arcát véli felfedezni.
