Ryan "Fwiz" Wyatt Branding Project

Ryan "Fwiz" Wyatt is the Global Head of Gaming and VR/AR at YouTube. He is an avid gamer in his free time and wanted to get serious about gaming and live-streaming again. Ryan approached Sage Designs and myself to create his brand new logo design and stream package for use in the very near future. I designed the logo for him, and Sage Designs created his stream package. Below is my process for the logo work and a showcase of all the work Sage did as well. We hope you enjoy the designs and thank you for stopping by!

1. The Sketches

I did three rough sketches for possible options to begin with. I personally wasn't very fond of the first two drafts (see below), however, the third had potential to me, so that was the one I pursued.

2. The Vector Process

During the vector process, a lot of the details start to get ironed out and changes are made step by step until you land on the final product. I started by vectoring the sketch I selected, and tweaked it until we landed on the final design. See full progress shots below.

When this version was finished off, I shared the design with Sage and he suggested to create a second option for Ryan to consider that would bring the right arm of the W below the cap line, to make the design much more uniform and clean. See below.

At this point, it was time to show Ryan the options I created to get feedback. He mentioned that he was going to be using the colors red, grey, black and white across the board. Ryan also mentioned that he indeed liked the second option better with the W in line with the rest of the typography, but felt like the F was too similar to the style of another well-recognized logo in the gaming industry and needed it changed somehow, perhaps by removing the flare on the left side of the F. He wanted the F and the Z to overall be more prominent, and requested that the F be done in such a way that it would work on its' own, separated from the rest of his name.

3. Finalized Designs

I gathered all of the feedback I received from Ryan and did all the revisions necessary to the design. Here is a summary of all of the changes:

- Removed flare to prevent it looking like another logo

- Inverted the second arm of the F to prevent it looking like another logo

- Widened Z to make it more prominent

- Sharpened the angle on the top right of Z, and gave the bottom arm of the Z a sharp edge also to make it more prominent

- Gave the logo an outline using black and red

- Added a bit of grey shading to the logo to make it all pop more

Below are the results of these changes, and I am happy to say that these final designs were approved by Ryan!
