funbang1 by Brendan Maclean

For the summer semester of 2018 at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin each student was given, at random, a musician, for whom we would develop an album cover and lyric booklet. The musician I pulled was Brendan Maclean, an Australian pop star, taking a deeper look onto his album funbang1.

For this project I explored the contrast between the innocent aesthetic generally found in pop culture, and Brendan Maclean's darker themed songs that touch upon gay and queer culture.

For this, I settled on a leather harness, which would then be worn by random colourful objects. These items, however, when looked at as a group, would seem to belong to a kid; for example the balloon, corn flakes, or volleyball, which when wrapped by this harness create a disparity.
