As an introduction to hand drafting fundamentals (parallel projection, axonometric, oblique section), I produced a series of representational drawings of a set of interlocking wooden blocks. These simple drafting operations developed into much more complex procedures such as successive auxiliary and shadow projection, and are used to create complex geometries from simple block forms.
