As the 2012 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament began, I started collecting images of each losing team from each game. I didn't know what I would do with them. I simply wanted to have them should they become necessary for a design idea over the ensuing weeks. In the days leading up to the Final Four, I thought it would be fun to recap the tournament by showing the emotions of the 66 teams that didn't make it to the championship game. I created this layout and pitched it to each of the newspapers we produced in our design center. Only two showed interest, though one of those two couldn't make room to use it. It appeared only in the Sioux City Journal. Based off the design, the editors at the Journal wrote the headline. It created a great recap of the tournament and a great visual to preview the National Championship that year.
