Cape Town is the World Design Capital 2014. Design is understood to be the catalyst for social change.
We should use Design Thinking as method and approach when identifying needy sectors of Cape Town.
We should conceptualise and develop a convincing case for design being used to uplift the “play” sector.

In our research my group found out that the ‘wheels culture’ is not getting enough attention in Cape Town. The issue is focusing on athletes in the circles of skateboarders, BMX masters and inliners (rollerblades or roller-skaters). The ‘wheels culture’ is surfacing in the city but still remains underneath a dark shadow of ignorance from the community, although it is a fun and an environmentally friendly means of transport.

To solve this problem, we suggest setting up small events in schools, universities, colleges and in certain areas in Cape Town. These events are meant to bring people together, expose the wheels culture to the public, to give the public the opportunity to learn and explore the “wheels culture”. This event gives people from the wheels culture a chance to skate and express themselves freely. For the non-skaters, there is given a opportunity to experiment skate boarding, long boarding, roller- blading, BMX and push scootering.
