This report will introduce something about pet architectures. Techniques what i chose is a drawing of the city as a collection of architectural eccentricities. Atelier Bow-Wow introduced the concept of ‘pet architecture’ to describe a unique typology of building which takes form in left over urban spaces. Atelier Bow-Wow (2001) states that ‘our society does not consist only of human beings. Various animals come into our livers as ‘pets’, and they are given spaces to live... if decent buildings standing in decent spaces are considered’ human beings’, small buildings standing with all their might in odd spaces would seem to be like pets in urban spaces.’ The definition of pet architectures is some small size buildings in our urban like pets to people. This technique is very important in Tokyo, because the land area of Tokyo is too small however the population of Tokyo is large. To solve these problems, architects created this technique. This technique can improve the utilization of land and create more floor space on the same land area. These buildings can have many different functions, such as restaurants, convenience stores and coffee shops. I drew some pet architectures around UTS.
At first, l took some photos of the pet architectures, i chose one restaurant and pedestrian street. All of them were very small and spare in some narrow spaces and urban corners. Compare them with other common buildings, these buildings are incredibly small, but they are fully functional and have an unexpected beauty. These pet architectures just in our common lives, although they may seem rather unremarkable, they do play indispensable role in cities, especially Tokyo.
