The competition entry to renovate and increase the usability of this square in the centre of Collado Villalba; proposes a set of actions to remove complexity to the space; removing accessibility barriers, replacing the pavement with a unified solution able to be used in the road areas and pedestrian areas and adapting the green areas to people’s usage, based on the space usage study done for the square. The main intention is to modify its space character (currently unfriendly and harsh); to become a friendly and neutral background well connected to all its perimeter; able to hold the rich set of activities currently taking place in it; encouraging new ones as sport (currently inexistent) to ultimately changing it to a more usable space, able to provide a smooth and seamless experience to the people using it. The whole set of actions and material solutions proposed to be done in the square can be extended through its peripheric streets to the rest of the town of Villalba.
Besides the physical intervention on the square, is also proposed the development of an online platform providing an unfolded virtual space, to promote and generate new activities on the space and include the plaza in people’s agenda.
