Pattern design for Karen Walker’s Spring ’18 collection, ‘Escapism’. Printed on cotton, silk crêpe de Chine, jersey and georgette, each pattern comes in 2 color ways. ‘Escapism’ explores the intrepid journeys of the Victorian-era naturalists – the zoological and botanical explorations of Charles Darwin – juxtiposed by the whimsical daydreams, the supercalifragilistic flights of fancy and the moonbeams-and-pennywhistles of that other great Victorian adventuress, Mary Poppins. The prints are lush homages to botanical illustrations with livid, over-ripe fruits split open and crawling with horned rhinoceros beetles or depictions of ring-tailed simians on stretch velvets.
