Artful Machinery, Charles River Museum, Waltham Massachusetts

I recently posted a story about the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation. This small gem of a museum traces the American industrial revolution from 1813 to mid-20th Century, and is housed in a historic mill complex in Waltham.

As I went about taking pictures for my story, I noticed various antique machines and machine parts lurking in corners of the museum, which I felt were of visual interest by themselves. So I took photos of them, which I present here.

In the fourth and fifth rows down, are images from an 1857 horse-drawn fire engine with a steam-powered tank, which shot water through the hoses to a height of 150-200 feet.

My extensive story about the museum, itself, can be found at The Mill.
