“Soy Afrocaribe” is a piece that celebrates the confidence of living and existing in our own skin. It is a piece that seeks to celebrate and exalt beauty and grace. The use of African patterns simulating the hair, seeks to provoke a conversation with the ancestral practice of headwraps/turbans . The colors evoke that constant conversation that our Caribbean bodies have with the Sun and the water: the rivers and the sea. Inspired by the orishas Yemaya and Oshún.
