ECO UMBRELLA STAND | A simple idea to capture the dripping water from umbrellas to grow grass, creating a stimulating product to brighten up otherwise uninspiring hallways
ELLA is an umbrella stand which aims tobring a smile to people’s faces by capturing the dripping water from wetumbrellas and using it to grow grass contained in its base
As the water drips from the umbrella itflows down the inside of the stand, through the perforations and into the base, feeding the soil and allowing the grass to grow
Theproduct is made from three moulded acrylic pieces. The handle and funnel screwinto the base and the soil containing fast growing grass seed is planted in thebase
Colour variants were explored in Photoshoponce the shape was finalised but the subtle clear design worked best due to thealready “in your face” shape of the product
Continuing the fun theme and deciding tomake the stand look as if stuck in the grass, the main concept exploration wasaround how close to stick to the umbrella aesthetic
A mixture between a drive to re-use wastedhousehold water and to simply use grass to brighten up an otherwise mundane, everyday object was the main inspiration behind ELLA
