Taking part in an internship or doing part-time jobs can enrich a student’s education and prepare him or her for further studies or the world of employment ahead.  It can beef up one’s credentials and exposure to his or her chosen area of study.  Biology students, for instance, have a wealth of internship and part-time job opportunities to choose from.  Here are some to consider.

Academic tutor

Why waste that precious knowledge or strong writing skills?  Tutor other students in your area of academic strength, may it be science, math, or science reporting.  Payscale notes that tutors make around $17 per hour on average, and it could climb to about $30 to $100 per hour for specialty knowledge of graduation school tests like the GMAT.

Blogger or editor

There are so many blogs and websites online that need expertise in science writing, editing, or social media.  There’s a variety of writing and editing projects available on platforms such as Freelancer and Upwork, and one can refine his or her availability and work preferences.

Research associate

Many science departments or independent research institutions need research support in various areas of study, from botany to zoology to environmental science.  One simply needs to have completed units in specific areas, be able to work independently, and demonstrate an ability to perform lab duties and responsibilities.

Administrative assistant or helper

Many academic or private offices also need an extra hand in performing administrative tasks, cleaning up and maintaining science labs, or performing encoding or online jobs.
