"My inspiration comes from the Year of the Earth Pig in 2019, which is considered a year of fortune and luck. In my artwork, there are 88 pigs alongside 88 mandarin oranges.
In Chinese culture, the number 8 is highly regarded as the luckiest number because the Chinese word for '8/八' (ba) sounds like '發' (fa), signifying 'wealth,' 'fortune,' and 'prosperity.' Multiples of eight are even more auspicious, with 88 resembling '囍' (shuāng xǐ), which means 'double happiness.'
Furthermore, the Chinese word for mandarin orange, '柑' (kam), sounds similar to the word for 'gold (金).' Therefore, having mandarin oranges around the home during the New Year is believed to attract riches into one's life."
