The Daruma doll is a short traditional Japanese doll originally made from paper-mache, and modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism. The dolls represent luck but also perseverance. When purchased, both of the eyes of the doll are blank. Once the owner has selected a wish or goal, they fill in the first eye; the second eye is only filled in once the goal has been completed. My version of the Daruma doll embodies the owner; she represents the creative process and the endless journey of self-actualization. May her spirit bring luck and remind us to persevere with passion, focus and strength.
