Self-Portrait as a Child
Charcoal on paper, 48" x 60", 2016
This drawing captures a distinct childhood memory. I recalled a visit to the aquarium with my father. Behind me is a compilation of my favorite fish from that day.
Fridge
Charcoal on paper, 18" x 24", 2016
In this drawing I wanted to evoke a mood or feeling. I tried to capture “hunger.” Many of these containers are empty or half-empty so that despite the multitude of options none are fully satisfying.
Turner's Left Ear
Charcoal on paper, 18" x 24", 2016
This drawing focuses on a single distinctive facial feature. I chose to focus on my friend’s ear, arguing that our sense of hearing is equally important as our senses of seeing, smelling, and tasting.
Shoes
Charcoal on paper, 18" x 24", 2016
This drawing explores textures of different materials in a dynamic composition that works in any of four orientations. I chose a dramatic source of light to emphasize the forms.
Skeleton
Charcoal on paper, 24" x 18", 2016
For this drawing I selected a challenging pose for looking at the skeleton. Foreshortening was required for the subject to remain in proportion.
Contained Emotions
Charcoal on paper, 18" x 24", 2016
This drawing is of my father after he received the bill for my college tuition.
Self-Portrait
Charcoal on paper, 48" x 60", 2016
This companion drawing depicts the energy of new skills and ideas flowing from my head to my heart and out into the world.
Self-Portrait with Friends
Digital illustration, varying dimensions, 2016
This self-portrait depicts some of the thoughts and feelings swirling around in my head.
Monsters
Digital illustration, varying dimensions, 2016
This illustration works with variations of two colors and gradations.
The Lost City of Providence
Digital illustration, varying dimensions, 2016
This is the cover for a graphic novel I developed. I wanted to use colors that would read as dark and to contrast those with illuminated figures and buildings.
