2- Why Rosetta?

Rosetta's history makes it rich city in heritage and monuments as well as it is one of the Egyptian gateways, but unfortunately in our recent times it became a forgotten city and it needs to be branded again as it is one of the charming beautiful cities of Egypt.

The Nile delta is facing serious threats relating to changing climatic scenarios. Research has predicted that by the year 2100, the Northern delta will have to deal with a sea level rise of at least 1m, along with a 2.5 degree C rise in mean temperature. And this will lead to a great losses in Rosetta as: 52% of is monuments, 32% of urban clusters, 25% of palm cultivation and 19% of agricultural lands in Rosetta will be endangered if the sea level rises by 1 m.

So the Sea Level Rise Research Center will be the rescuer of Rossetta

Concept:

Noah’s Ark (ship abstraction). Noah Ark was built with science and knowledge to rescue people and other creatures from the flood. This research center will be responsible to rescue the World from climate change impacts, especially: Sea level rise.

Branding for Rashid with a futuristic vision as the new surviving city from climate change impacts.

Concept formulation

Vision:

Reducing vulnerability to climate change in order to pursue climate change adaptation.

Mission:

- To build a community of researchers working with the perspective that all countries are responsible for the sea level rise and we all have to co-operate to solve this issue.

- Collect, monitor, analyze, and provide science about sea level conditions, issues and problems.

- Project’s diverse expertise carry out large- scale, multidisciplinary investigations and provide impartial scientific information to resource managers, planners and other customers.

A floating mass in the river confirms the ship concept; this mass is including the auditorium with its services and terraces for a panoramic view of the citadel, city and the River Nile. It contains an auditorium with 500 seats to accommodate research conferences. The Conference Center will be a center of culture and a beacon of knowledge to serve Egypt, the Mediterranean Region, Africa and the world. A distinguished feature of the auditorium is that it was designed, first and foremost, for international conferences, and offers comprehensive services and diverse facilities. It satisfies the requirements of highly sophisticated conferences. It accommodates symposiums, meetings and presentations and can host, simultaneously or independently, exhibitions. Terraces with panoramic view to the Nile and the Citadel are part of the design to let people enjoy the city and appreciate the beauty of Rasheed.

As Rosetta includes one third of the Islamic monuments in Egypt, so having modernized Islamic patterns (Mashrabia) in elevation was necessary to show city's identity to all visitors.
