Inside The Lion King – a Pop-Up Exhibit (Disney)

Inside The Lion King
a Pop-Up Exhibit that celebrated The Landmark Musical’s 15th year anniversary on Broadway

How do you celebrate being one of the longest-running and most beloved musical theater productions on Broadway? We created a “takeover” of a prime location in midtown Manhattan opposite Bryant Park and developed a 5,000 square-foot immersive exhibit Inside The Lion King. The pop-up exhibit showcased dozens of artifacts from the production, including early concept sketches, a 17-foot ostrich, a 13-foot elephant and several intricately designed costumes. The exhibit occupied two ground floors of a New York midtown high-rise building and the exterior coverage consisted of more than 200 panels. One of the major design challenges of the project was working around the structural restrictions of the exterior while creating a cohesive inside-outside look.
The project lead time was about 4 months from start to finish and the SerinoCoyne team consisted of one Art Director (me!) and a small group of four talented designers and production artists. The interior of the exhibit was developed in partnership with with
Five 33, a creative agency based in Los Angeles and London.
