While the budget was tight, using a fixed template would be very off-brand for this creative arts camp. In addition, the site needed to transmit a tremendous amount of information, so the challenge was to design a simple navigation system that the user would not get lost in. Since the camp is all about self-discovery, I combined the notion of a map and branches for growth and made it the main nav. The site was built in Flash with all the copy dynamically populated from text files. This allowed for any copy changes to be done easily.
When a leaf is clicked, a pop-up panel is displayed. The user closes the panel before moving on to the next leaf. By using the main nav as the centerpiece, it serves to be visually engaging, unique, functions as an interactive component and keeps the user centered on the site.
