Naming, Brand Design
A history podcast based in the North of England, Northern Podcast needed a brand that was inviting, informative and lively. For the visual identity, it was important to create something that would be easily recognisable in a very small, digital format. The logo is easy to understand in any podcast app and has alot of breathing space to keep it distinct in a podcast directory. The word Northern trails into a rough outline of the Northern border. The logo was designed in collaboration with Callum Badger.
While many history podcasts feature subdued colours, this colour palette is expressive and natural while still feeling youthful and modern. It's a style that is made to tell stories on a purely digital platform.
The aim of the tone is to be informative and playful at the same time. On Twitter and Instagram the copy mirrors the podcast scripts only in a shorter format. The content features historical facts about places and people, as well as engagement with popular hastahgs like #folklorethursday on Twitter.
