Wall - Where Heroes Rise

This is an old, abandoned brick wall near the Vizag airport. I was asked to upcycle it into a monument. The sheer size of this wall was my biggest challenge. Also, the rough and bumpy texture of the wall meant that, drawing and painting straight lines required Shaolin focus and grit. Other fun challenges were beehives, casual snake encounters, mid-day sun, floods (yes) and fighter jet noise.

But so many people helped me to paint this wall. I never needed to fill water or wash brushes. I always had someone ready to grab a paintbrush and start helping. I had friends who would come down and tell me that it was looking grand, even before I had started. And there were bravehearts who climbed to the top of this rickety wall, to help me mark my grid. Chitra Vara Prasad - came by and added his magic touch to this work - what an amazing artist, this guy!

A sailor in his ceremonial crisp white uniform. Sun rays shooting across the wall. Three sailors in overalls watching their aircraft flying in the sky. The pilots flying the aircraft. All these incredible men, summed up in the title - "Where Heroes Rise". This place is the alma mater, where all these men have risen beyond themselves, to become heroes.

Here's a lineup of videos that I managed to take along the way. Music: www.bensound.com
