Pediatric Hospital Benefits from Support

Apart from his responsibilities as the CEO of ProLink Sports, LLC, Hollis Cavner engages in charitable pursuits. Hollis Cavner has specifically raised money for charities with golfer Jack Nicklaus, who is the cofounder of the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation.

Established in 2004 by Mr. Nicklaus and his wife, Barbara, the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation supports pediatric health care programs in an effort to make high-quality pediatric care more accessible for families across the United States. Among the medical centers that have benefited from the support of the foundation is the flagship hospital of the Miami Children’s Health System, which in 2015 renamed itself Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in honor of the couple.

In April 2017, the Foundation announced further support for Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. A $7 million gift, solicited by Mr. Nicklaus and provided by Sanford Health, will enable the hospital to undertake a project that aims to better understand the specific health needs of people with Hispanic backgrounds. The project will involve Sanford Health collaborating with the hospital’s Personalized Medicine Initiative to sequence the genes of close to 1,000 members of this population.

After completing the sequencing, doctors hope to use the results to personalize treatment plans for individual patients and to identify those who may have predispositions to certain diseases. The results may also lead to the creation of a database that will illuminate common genetic patterns in Hispanics. Such information has the potential to advance health care for Hispanic children in south Florida and around the world.
