Johanna Maier is the only female chef worldwide who has been awarded four stars by Gault Millau as well as two stars by Guide Michelin. Her current book »Meine gesunde Küche« (»My Healthy Cooking«) provides many personal insights, reports on her enthusiasm for Traditional European Medicine and explains her premise that healthy food also has to taste delicious.
By order of Servus by Benevento Publishing, we were assigned the task to design the cookbook. A precise use of forms, a lot of white space and reduced typography provide ease as well as clear structuring and readability, which are completed by handwritten introductory pages for each chapter. Sharing her passion for healthy cooking, the book starts with a comprehensive introduction in which Johanna Maier describes individual products such as herbs and spices, fruit and vegetables, seeds and cereals, milk, meat, oils and soups, while the second part offers a considerable collection of recipes. Johanna Maier shows on 256 pages her personal thoughts and anecdotes about each ingredient or dish. The book is creatively seasoned with uncoated, smooth paper emphasizing naturalness. The papaya-coloured ribbed endpaper delivers a harmonious finish.
