Promotional Song Poster

As part of a poster design workshop (taken by Rajesh Dahiya & Vivek Sadamate from co design) we were given a brief to write hundred words about a given song, title it in a word & one line heading; And find an appropriate object to add meaning your write up; And finally compose a promotional poster for the same. The song i chose was short skirt/long jacket by cake and the word i picked was edge. To me the song had a lot to do with high contrast both in terms of its lyrics as well as its contrapunto style of composition. It had an edgy sharpness to it specifically in context with the lyrics. The object of my choice was a pair of red bottom stilettos; that aptly added meaning to the write up *attached at the bottom

The magic of this song lies essentially in the sharp contrast of the vocals to the beats. The swift upbeat lyrical rhythm catches on immediately while the low tone mundane effect of the vocals are almost dreamy. At one level, it sounds like a flashy advertisement of hot pink beats & ramp walk cuts but when read into, the lyrics have a lot more to say. The absolute epitome of the woman it talks about is almost fantastical; yet so desirable & enticing that you feel inadequate & wishful. And after listening into it a couple of dozen times you find an intriguing usage of piercing adjectives throughout; whether it's talking about her mind like a diamond or her shoes that cut. her being sharp as a tack or cutting red tape with a machete; There is an intentional use of acute words that make her sound intimidatingly dangerous & edgy;
And this seemed to me a defining quality of the song.
