el Tangata manu,

El Tangata Manu (el hombre-pájaro) era el ganador de una competición tradicional en Isla de Pascua.
El ritual era una competencia anual para obtener el primer huevo de la estación del charrán sombrío (manutara) en el islote de Motu Nui (gran isla), nadar de regreso a Rapa Nui y trepar el acantilado marino de Rano Kau hasta su cima cercana al poblado de Orongo. Esta ceremonia de primavera honraba al dios creador Make-Make: comenzaba con ocasión del hallazgo del primer huevo y culminaba con la triunfal investidura del Tangata Manu, el sagrado hombre-pájaro de Rapa Nui.
Intervine una mesa de dos metros de largo por setenta centímetros de ancho, para el café Tera Ai, en el centro de Isla de Pascua con una interpretación pintada sobre esta tradicional competencia, que si bien no se realiza más aún se le tiene mucho respeto a los antepasados que realizaron esta ceremonia como forma de gobierno y como forma de demostrar la fuerza y destreza de sus habitantes, los Rapa Nui.

The Tangata Manu (the bird-man) was the winner of a traditional competition on Easter Island.The ritual was an annual competition to obtain the first egg of the dark tern (manutara) station on the islet of Motu Nui (large island), swim back to Rapa Nui and climb the Rano Kau marine cliff to its summit close to the town of Orongo.
