The Wizard of Oz
For this project, a sticker set was to be created. The stickers were to share a similar theme, and when printed, the longest length of each had to be a minimum of 3 inches. This project underwent multiple design phases, including sketching, digitizing, and peer reviews.
Sketches
The sketches initially started by doing some funky looking mustaches on older men's faces, to different characters from different franchises. I sketched #10, and then thought about doing Wizard of Oz as a theme. I then began to sketch what I could do.
Sketches. Peers reviewed and responded well to the WoO Heads theme, as well as to the M&M character. Going off of this feedback, the heads were then brought into Adobe Illustrator for the next phase.
Digitization
From the various heads sketched, it was decided that the three main companions, Scarecrow, Tinman, and Cowardly Lion, would be turned into stickers. Initial line work and base colors were made, and then presented to peers for review.
Digital Draft. Most of the initial work went into designing a brush that would capture the unique feel from the sketches. When presented to peers, tangents and help with design direction was suggested in order to help the project progress smoothly.
Digital Draft 2. Initial detail work began, and was once again presented to peers for their review. The consensus was that it was the detail work of just adding shadows and highlights was the right direction.
Final Product
For the final, various levels of shadow and highlights were applied to each sticker. Die cut outlines were then created, and a background chosen to simulate the stickers in action.
Final Product. The order of the three companions were rearranged so that the light source would then appear to have been shared by all three stickers.
