FINAL MAJOR PROJECT
CANDY FLOSS FLAMINGO CARDS ILLUSTRATIONS
For my Final Major Project (FMP) I was given the theme of "The Southbank". I ultimately decided to create a series of whimsical cards featuring characters that would not otherwise be these interacting with the location, inspired by the Surrealist concept of uncanny imagrey. These cards would hypothetically be sold in the gift shop at the Southbank and would be the first line of cards produced by my unofficial card company, Candy Floss Flamingo Cards. As well as designing the characters and final illustrations, I therefore also updated the card company's logo to communicate it's values of whimsicality, fun and uniqueness.
I also researched the history and features of postcard design and also analysed the styles of Sir John Tenniel, Lorena Alvarez and Vlad Stankovic.
I decided to complete my illustrations using watercolours and learnt about watercolour stretching and the various ways in which watercolours could be applied.

I produced these style studies of Lorena Alvarez and Vladmimir (Vlad) Stankovic, whose style I wanted to influence the final aesthetics of my illustrations.

Unfortunatelty, due to time constraints and other circumstances, I was unable to complete the entire set of illustrations. These characters I had originally planned to also feature in illustrations in the set.
