Universal Gravitaion

“Universal Gravitation” is a kinetic installation with a narrative that is inspired by everyday life at Yunlin Storyhouse in Huwei, Tiwan during a 2-week-long artist residence program in May 2018. The visual component of the artwork is designed based on a short text I write as following:

************************
Yunlin Storyhouse has several large mango trees in its garden.
The trees bear small green fruits every early summer.
Contrary to their not-so-attractive appearance, the flavor is surprisingly sweet and delicious.
Most of the mangoes grow in high branches, so they are out of human’s reach.
However, there’s no struggle trying to catch them.
Because the mangoes naturally fall from the trees to the ground as getting ripe.
There is no rush.
Sometimes when we wait, good luck comes down from the sky.
I feel like this tree tells me such a thing.
One day, a mango fell when I was eating lunch.
It suddenly reminded me of the law of gravitation.
Yunlin Storyhouse seems to have mysterious gravitation.
It might be such power that brought me here.
