My Brain On Dysautonomia
My Brain On Dysautonomia
I know what you're thinking. What the hell is Dysautonomia? Well in simple terms, it's a neurological disorder. Technically speaking it is dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system is the part of the brain that controls all of the involuntary functions of the body (i.e. heart rate, respiration, digestion, pupil dilation, and many other fun things we never think about).
I was diagnosed with Dysautonomia in September 2009. I figured what better way to deal with my emotions, pain, fear, and all around feelings of not being "right" than by doing what I know and love...painting. This collection is comprised of all the paintings I have done since developing Dysautonomia. My style is mainly abstract expressionism, which I felt was fitting under the circumstances.
