Struggling to Fit In - Competition Entry
A big part of the living routine of people nowadays is to maintain a stable and somewhat healthy lifestyle. Healthy living is an issue that is promoted a lot by the media and other sectors of society, and yet many people struggle to have a balance in their lives. The poster communicates the struggle of fitting in, the strain and the effort a person faces mentally as much as physically — mental diseases such as anxiety and depression, physical problems such as obesity as well as the feelings of uselessness, peer pressure and wanting to feel accepted and belong somewhere. The concept is based on a purely typographic approach in order to give emphasis on the words — the letters working as the image and the chaos and confusion that are going on in a person’s mind. The color choices are chosen to reflect the psychology of the individual in that state of mind. The deep blue symbolizes depression and negative feelings, emotional instability in general. Magenta is a color representative of a harmonious life and spiritual balance like green, which is also a mental and physical stabilizer, icon of health and well-being, however in this case bright green has more sinister tone, evoking disruptive tendencies and insecurities. In the end, these colors and words combined create an almost psychedelic visual scenery which is difficult to stare at for too long, which is also representative of the heavy influx of influences and the strain to have a clear and specific focus as a person for a healthy lifestyle.
