Sea Sweep is a mobile game aimed at kids from the ages 6 and over. The game is designed with sustainability in mind. It raises awareness of marine pollution and encourages players to reduce, reuse and recycle household waste in a fun and interactive way. The aim is to ‘sea sweep’ by removing as much trash from the sea as possible and placing each item in the correct recycle bin within a time limit. Correct decisions earn stars and the character’s mood is affected positively or negatively based on the player’s actions. The game starts with 3 recycle bins but more are unlocked as the player advances through the game making it progressively more challenging. The game is accompanied by reference material within the app called Sea Scrolls where players can learn more about recycling and find useful tips to reduce and reuse waste in the real world. Sea Scrolls are designed to improve the player’s performance in the game and also enables tangential learning about the topic. The game includes an immersive augmented reality feature called Sea Sweep Supermarket. It is designed to change consumer behaviour at point of purchase with an aim towards reducing waste. Sea Sweep Supermarket guides the player to scan more eco-friendly options throughout the store and offers players the chance to earn extra stars based on their decisions. The vibrant colours and minimalist ‘cut-out’ style of Sea Sweep is inspired by Pop Art, Saul Bass and Henri Matisse.
