WBIR-TV produces the City of Knoxville's annual Festival on the Fourth. This year, I was tasked with creating a new show open for the celebration to be featured on-site at World's Fair Park and before WBIR's broadcast of the event. The goal was to celebrate Knoxville and remain congruent with WBIR and TEGNA's brand, while still producing unique content for this year's Festival.
The only creative direction given was the original logo for the Festival - other than that, the rules were "engaging, local, and unique."
Each piece of the skyline had to be significant enough to the Knoxville area that the regular viewer would recognize it. This led to the inclusion of the Sunsphere, Ayres Hall at the University of Tennessee, Neyland Stadium, the Tennessee Theatre sign, and the JFG Coffee sign that overlooks the downtown area.
Once the skyline was created, I imported the PSD into After Effects and animated it using a camera and placing the pieces, along with firework animations, in 3D space to give the appearance of movement through the city.
With the introduction of IGTV, WBIR wanted to push promotions for the Festival via their Instagram account. These are promotables created for the Festival, edited to be viewed as vertical video.
