Zagreb | Competition | 2014
Due to increased number of students and the lack of space, the city of Zagreb announced a competition to enlarge and improve its current facilities. Our proposal started as an analysis of the needs and aimed to create a new improved building typology in the existing University campus. In order to create an improved communication between the functions of the Science Faculty we are proposing a horizontal and vertical communication which is inspired by the “Cardo and Decumanus” of ancient Rome and “The Forum”, the vertical Tower in our proposal, as the center piece of the development. A new spatial quality is created at the campus which connects functionally and aesthetically the areas of the proposed and the existing University buildings. A "funk-tional" whole.
The resulting volume creates direct and harmonious connection between the neighborhood, the campus and city. Communication fits into the existing infrastructure, connects and improves pedestrian routes within the campus and connects with the rest of city. The tower makes public a visual and functional link within the campus itself as a visual focus and link within the University.
