My work is about how distance transcends the physical, it is all a matter of perspective. Though distance might separate one from another, they are always together in their thoughts, their feelings and their emotions. While we may not see them, we will always feel them. I was inspired by how my relationship with my parents is, and I wanted to implement it in an indirect way. I used a shadow to represent a male figure to contrast the female figure, and to add familiarity to the viewer. Although it is a self-portrait, it is important for the viewer, because everyone feels this way at some point in their life. Everyone has had this type of relationship. Everyone knows distance.
