MESOPOTAMIA

Built to communicate amongst themselves and with their deities, the following book of  archeological artefacts is the testimony of the first civilisations’ expanding knowledge. The rich artistic and sometimes scientific quality of these objects traveled through time and bring forth the sophistication of these people. Humans at the time had developed a complex society with almost everything similar to ours; justice, citizenship, medicine, trade, science, astronomy, agriculture, architecture etc. Their religious beliefs also forged their daily lives and this first established religion forged the following religious myths of Greece, Egypt and later Rome; antique myths that directly forged todays’ multiple monotheist religions. From Assyrian to Sumerian all the way to the first Elamite settlements, the base of our modern civilisation grew and enriched through the same objects that nowadays inhabit our Museums.
These objects are presented to scale when possible, colours and shapes are respected, origins of place and time are specified, so is their conservation place when known. Almost no explanation is given, figures and symbols often speak for themselves, a proof of their rich cultural legacy.

Artefacts found in Museum collections such as the Louvres, The Metropolitan Museum,
The British Museum, but also smaller museums and few private collections.
All artefacts can be found on the Museums’ websites.

The typeface was drawn for the project, watercolor Illustrations were made for the project, you can see them at the bottom of the page
